Commercial Laundry Program
Commercial Laundry Program information for Pacific Gas and Electric
Company commercial customers
CASH IMPACT
Potentially, there are three cash streams to consider when making your
decision to replace an old top-loading washer.
Efficiency Rebates
The energy rebate for replacing inefficient commercial washers with high
efficiency models is $130 per washer.
Many water utilities also offer rebates of similar or greater amounts.
The dollar value and the eligibility requirements vary, so check with
your local water agency directly.
Utility Savings
Efficient washers use less electricity, substantially less water and, by
extension, less gas to operate the dryer, less gas to heat the water
along with reduced flows to sewer. Consequently, these efficient
washers have the potential to reduce combined utility costs by as much
as 50%.
Additional utility savings may be available through no-cost laundry room
lighting and pip wrap measures.
Change in Vend Rate
Many facilities have found an opportunity to increase their washer vend
rates when they install new, efficient washers. This can
substantially improve the overall profitability of a laundry operation.
QUALIFYING WASHERS
There are many models on TIER 2 and TIER 3 of the CEE list of efficient
machines from which to choose. The washers are rated by the
consortium of Energy Efficiency, which categorizes the models into tiers
according to levels of energy and water use. Through 2008, all
modes shown on TIER 2 and TIER 3 of the list qualify for an energy
rebate of $130 per washer. The list is periodically updated and
posted on their website at
http//:www.cee1.org. Under the commercial clothes washer
section, click on “Qualifying Products.”
NO COST ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES
Washers that are installed at locations that pay the energy bill to San
Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Gas Company or Southern
California Edison, may also be eligible to receive additional
energy-saving measures at no cost. Funding is limited.
Rebates are paid and installation services provided on a first-come,
first-served basis until funds are depleted or until September 30, 2008,
whichever comes first. Acceptance of these measures is entirely
voluntary and will not affect the process of your rebate in any way.
- Lighting
We will retrofit existing incandescent lamp bulbs to ENERGY STAR ®
compact fluorescent lamp bulbs and T12 lamps to T8 lamps with electronic
ballasts.
- Pipe Wrap
We will insulate hot water pipes from water heater to washer.
PERSONALIZED ANALYSIS
We can assist you on evaluating how each of these cash streams can
impact the profitability of operating your facility.
