Christmas Gifts or Utility Bills?

Along with all the gifts and festivities, the holiday season brings in the cooler weather.  Most likely you’ve already fired up your furnace to keep your home comfy and cozy for your family.  In Southern California, winters are very mild but there are still ways to make sure that you are being “energy smart” to free up some extra money for those holiday gifts you plan to purchase.

Fireplace   If you are feeling any sort of a draft in your home then start looking for the source right away.  Feel for cold air coming through around doors and windows that may not have a tight seal.  Weatherstripping and caulking go a long way to help keep the cold air out and the warm air inside for a nice comfortable home.  Be sure that your fireplace flue is properly adjusted so that you aren’t letting all the warm air out and the cold air in.  A home energy assessment is a great way to identify areas that need attention such as sealing the envelope of your home and adding insulation to your attic.
